This Plano opening will mark the first North Texas location for the brand and just the second inside the state of Texas. Go! Go! Curry currently has one other location at 9889 Bellaire Blvd in Houston’s Asiatown. The opening date for the Plano restaurant has been set for January 15. It was originally planned to open sometime in summer, and then later November, of this year.

“It saddens us to announce that we will not be opening this month due to our current day challenges. Go! Go! Curry! Plano will now be opening in January 2022,” an update posted to social media reads. “Thank you for your excitement and we hope that you will come to celebrate our grand opening in January.”

Founded in 2004 in Kanazawa, Japan, the brand has over 70 locations there and several throughout the U.S. It first made its stateside debut in 2007 with a location in Times Square.

Go! Go! Curry! serves authentic Japanese comfort food in the form of Kanazawa-style curry that originated from Kanazawa-city, Ishikawa prefecture. The brand’s curry style is a dark, thick curry sauce served over premium short grain rice, with a side of very thinly shredded cabbage and pork or chicken katsu. Sausage, shrimp, fish, tofu and veggie options are also available. Other toppings include boiled egg, corn, pickled radish and fermented soybeans.

The brand gets its name from Hideki Matsui, a former baseball legend from the Kanazawa area. His jersey number was 55 and 5 is pronounced “go” in Japanese. Special dishes at Go! Go! Curry! are called Home Run, Grand Slam and World Champion, to pay tribute to Matsui as the brand continues to expand.

Update: In an email to What Now Dallas, a rep for the Plano restaurant said they will not be opening in January 2022 as expected due to unexpected construction delays. The opening is being pushed back, but a new timeline is not yet known.
