Dave’s Hot Chicken will soon serve up its Nashville-style hot chicken at a new location in Irving.
The forthcoming restaurant will open at 8001 Bryson Rd, off 635 and MacArthur, per a recent state project filing. Remodeling on the existing 3,000 square foot building is expected to start in July and be completed by October. The location was previously home to Indian restaurant, Madurai Thattu Kadai, and comes with a drive-thru.
Most locations for Dave’s Hot Chicken are walk-in only, but the Dallas location on Preston Rd includes a drive-thru, so it looks like the Irving restaurant will have that feature going for it when it opens.
Launched in 2017 as a parking lot pop-up in East Hollywood, Dave’s Hot Chicken is a result of four friends – Dave Kopushyan, Arman Oganesyan, and Tommy and Gary Rubenyan – who were determined to create the “perfect hot chicken.” Since then, the brand has exploded in popularity, with folks waiting for an hour in line to try the chicken and franchise rights being sold to open more than 400 restaurant locations across the States. Fans of the brand include such celebrities as hip-hop star Drake and actor Samuel L. Jackson.
With a simple menu that keeps the chicken the star, it gets its namesake heat from Dave’s own mix of spices ranging from “mild” to “reaper.” Dave’s offers its hot chicken as tenders served with fries, sliced bread, pickles and a side of Dave’s sauce. Or you can get those tenders as a slider with kale slaw.
The seven heat levels are: no spice, lite mild, mild, medium, hot, extra hot and reaper. And if you lean to the latter, there’s chocolate, strawberry or vanilla milkshakes made with real ice cream to cool your mouth down.
The Irving location is being brought to the area by David Futrell and Ernest Crawford, childhood best friends who have been partners in the restaurant industry since the 1990’s. In 2020, the two signed a franchise agreement to open 10 Dave’s Hot Chicken locations across the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex.
Texas spots (so far!) for Dave’s Hot Chicken include Dallas, Fort Worth, Houston, Missouri City and Plano. The brand’s second Plano restaurant is opening very soon. Located at 1709 Preston Rd, suite A, the grand opening is happening this Friday, April 22!
