The couple told What Now Dallas that they really enjoyed the product from Kava Culture, which is a sister company to Botanical Brewing Company, so they decided to open the franchise location. “Kava is a Pacific Islander root that they grind up, mix with water, and drink at social gatherings and ceremonies,” David explained.

“It’s the similar feeling of having one to two drinks of alcohol, but you don’t have any inebriation or lack of function. You still get that social, calm, relaxing, fun feeling, and you’re safe to drive home after,” CJ said.

David added that the Kava Culture products are low-calorie. “It was a combination of it’s a healthier thing to do, and the atmosphere is super unique,” David shared. Kava Culture is based in Florida. “We’ll be the only Kava Culture franchise in Texas,” David said. They hope to open 2-4 more locations over the next two years.

Kava Culture offers several products. One is Kratom from southeast Asia that comes in different veins of plants that provide different effects. Red vein affects muscle receptors to relax, and green vein boosts mood.

In addition to opening Kava Culture, CJ works full time as a firefighter. “I’ve seen alcohol negatively affect a lot of lives, and so I’m excited that we can offer a way for people to relax responsibly,” CJ said. David works in real estate and wants to spread the word throughout the industry about the alcohol alternative.

You must be 18 and over to drink the Kava Culture products, but the North Fort Worth location will be a family-friendly space. Other drinks will be offered for younger guests, as well as entertainment. The space will feature an indoor bar and couches, hanging chairs, and a few seats out front. Kava Culture will have a few snacks for purchase, but CJ added that guests can bring in food or have it delivered from one of the neighboring restaurants.
