Per a recent project filing, renovation work on the 3,481-square-foot building from the late 1800’s began this month and is expected to be completed in March 2022. According to the Founders Row website, it was planned for the restaurant to open late this year, but that did not happen. A new opening time frame has not yet been announced.

“Wilson’s Seafood has its roots in the heritage of the late David C. Wilson, a renowned foodie and founder of David’s Seafood in Cedar Hill,” a description for the restaurant reads. With Wilson’s Seafood, owners Shawn and Suzanne Wilson hope to continue David’s legacy by serving the community and the delicious fare for which he was known for. Shawn, along with brothers David Jr. and Jason, are David’s three sons.

Founded by David C. Wilson Sr. in 2006, David’s Seafood Grill was open at 350 E 1382 FM Rd in Cedar Hill for 14 years. His dream with the restaurant was to bring the flavor and spirit of his hometown of New Orleans to his adopted Texas community. The restaurant closed permanently in April 2020, right at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“We’ve had a great run and wish to sincerely thank the community of Cedar Hill and surrounding suburbs for your support and friendship,” David Wilson Jr. said at the time. “Our decision didn’t come easily, however, the combination of the impact of the COVID 19 pandemic combined with an uncertain future operating environment contributed to our decision to close.”

When Wilson’s Seafood opens, guests can expect great hospitality and a New Orleans inspired menu including crab cakes, gumbo and po’ boys, along with a delicious bread pudding that became the signature dessert at David’s Seafood Grill.

Established in 1888, Founders Row is a unique development of historic buildings that are being renovated into an exciting collection of shops and restaurants. When all is said and done, the development will encompass an entire block intersected by a brick lane in a park-like setting that is sure to become a favorite place for people to gather and host events.

The Old Church building that Wilson’s Seafood will occupy was built in 1895 in Italy, Texas.
