Taco Joint, a Tex Mex favorite that got its start on Dallas’s Peak St, has been steadily growing over the past year. It currently has five locations in the city but has been eyeing a broader expansion.
According to a recent state project filing, Taco Joint has its sights set on Wylie with a location coming to 2588 W FM 544. Additions to an existing building of 2,679 square feet will be made to get the space ready for the restaurant. Work is expected to start in June and wrap up in September.
Per the brand’s website, two other locations will also be opening in Addison and Plano. The Addison location is coming to 14999-C Preston Rd. The Plano location is set for 1300 W Plano Pkwy, suite 100. The Dallas Morning News reported in June 2021 that both restaurants would open by the end of last year, but they are still in the works.
“We want to grow steadily here, in DFW, to where we can still drive to each store, take care of it, get a feel for the neighborhood,” co-founder Corey McCauley said at the time.
Officially launched in fall 2008, the history of Taco Joint goes way back to 1492… or so the brand’s website would have you believe. On the menu are a variety of tacos, enchiladas, chalupas, and burritos. Sides and starters include soups, salads, beans, rice, seasoned potatoes, queso and fresh, pickled or fired jalapenos. When it comes to queso, Taco Joint’s specialty is something called “The Disaster” – a blend of queso mixed with seasoned ground sirloin, guacamole, and pico de gallo.
But the best part – breakfast! With specialties like the “Migas Plate” which features eggs, tortilla strips, onions, tomatoes, serrano peppers, and cheese, all served with a side of potatoes and refried beans.
