What’s Poppin co-owner Tara Horton told What Now Dallas she and her husband, Kerry Horton, both worked in healthcare for about 20 years and decided to open the shop after speaking with a popcorn store consultant. “Forney is growing, and it’s something fun and different to do,” Tara said.

The popcorn menu will be an extensive one. Flavors will include plain, movie theater, kettle corn, and a cheese and caramel flavor. Colorful popcorn will include different flavors such as watermelon, grape, and orange. “We can pretty much do any flavor,” Tara said.

Puppy Chow is one of her favorites. “It’s peanut butter and chocolate with powdered sugar on it,” Tara said. “During holidays, we could have different flavors geared towards that holiday. So, you could do a Christmas-colored one that’s colored, white chocolate popcorn with maybe some sprinkles in it.”

All of the popcorn will be made in house. As for the ambiance, they want a modern look. “Some of the concepts that most people have in popcorn shops is kind of an old, candy store look. We’re wanting it to be more modern,” Tara explained.

What’s Poppin will be located at 823 N FM 548, Ste. 110, Forney, TX 75126. They hope to open sometime this spring.
