The brand known for its funky taco creations filed a commercial grading permit with the city on April 19. If everything goes as planned, the second restaurant will open at 2828 N Tarrant Pkwy. An exact opening date has yet to be announced.

Founded in 2011, the very first Velvet Taco opened in Dallas’s Knox-Henderson and the brand has since grown to 30 locations with more in the works. Most of those locations are in Texas, but there are also restaurants in Georgia, Illinois, North Carolina, Oklahoma and Tennessee.

The funky taco concept “is founded on the idea that tacos don’t have to be Mexican.” And its menu certainly reflects that, featuring a range of international taco flavors like spicy tikka chicken, falafel, Korean fried rice and Mexi-Cali shrimp, to name a few.

Sides include chips with red curry coconut queso or queso blanco and elote. There’s also a deliciously moist housemade red velvet cake and margaritas.

Velvet Taco has a sixth Dallas location in Deep Ellum coming soon, as well as locations to Grapevine and The Colony. It is currently open in Fort Worth at 2700 W 7th St.
