Jia Modern Chinese and Asian Lounge is opening a second spot in early 2022. It will be located at 7325 Gaston Ave, a part of the 100,000-square foot Arboretum Village at the intersection of Gaston Ave and Garland Rd. The shopping center is a major connector between the East Dallas and Downtown Dallas areas and is home to such retail stores and restaurants as Tom Thumb, Starbucks, and White Rock Alehouse and Brewery.

Jia will be neighbors with Starbucks, taking over the space that was previously home to Digg’s Taco Shop. The Mexican-style restaurant closed earlier this year as a result of the pandemic. While building permits are still being waited on, a spokesperson said they’re eyeing a February opening.

Jia is part of a restaurant group that also owns The Green Gator, a popular Cajun themed restaurant and bar that has two locations in Frisco near Toyota Stadium and in Irving, Las Colinas near the Toyota Music Factory, respectively. Jia’s first location is at 8411 Preston Rd in suite 132. The forthcoming second location will be the group’s fourth DFW area restaurant opening.

The decision to bring Jia to Arboretum Village was easy. “It’s pretty dense and there’s not many restaurants like this over there,” the spokesperson shared. “We saw a little hole in the market.”

The new location is being styled by the same designer who styled the first, Hatsumi Kuzuu, but will be “a little bit more funkier and modern”. Dallas-based Kuzuu is an award-winning design specialist for upscale restaurants, bistros, hotel lounges, and bars. She is considered one of the best restaurant designers and architects in the city by D Magazine and The Dallas Morning News.

Jia’s extensive menu is both tasty and impressive with a sushi menu that includes crab stick, octopus, squid, sweet egg and sea urchin. Signature rolls feature “Preston Road”, a wrap that’s stuffed with crab, ebi shrimp, avocado, cream cheese, and tempura fried with eel sauce; as well as “Sexy Mama”, “Crouching Tiger” and “Lion King – Simba” – a baked wrap filled with crab meat and avocado with salmon and spicy mayo on the top.

For entrees, guests can choose from chef specialties such as orange beef steak, crispy duck, and happy family – a mix of scallops, shrimp, chicken, beef, and mixed vegetable. Several other chicken, beef, pork, seafood, and vegetarian dishes are also offered. There’s even dessert – joy macarons ice cream sandwiches, Chinese fried sesame balls, and Hakutsuru plum wine.

While only the Preston location has a lounge, the location on Gaston will no doubt carry a similar extensive list of wine, sake, and beer. Specialty cocktails include “Singapore Sling” made with Ford’s Gin and cherry heering liqueur, and “Hong Kong Mule” made with Texas-favorite Tito’s, iichiko silhouette shochu, and cucumber juice.

While Jia on Preston mainly focuses on authentic Chinese food, the menu at the forthcoming location will offer a slightly wider variety of Asian cuisine – including a few dishes from Thai cuisine, per the spokesperson.

Jia on Gaston will feature a fully enclosed patio, and the restaurant will focus a lot on takeout and delivery.
