Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams is planning to open a scoop shop at 2012 Greenville Ave., per a recent state project filing. The 2,121-square-foot space that Jeni’s is taking over was previously home to gourmet dessert shop, Steel City Pops, which closed in 2021.
An opening date for the new shop has not been announced, but it is expected to open by mid-2022.
Jeni’s currently has two scoop shops in the Dallas area – Deep Ellum and Prestonwood Place – both of which opened in 2021. Three more Texas locations are in Austin.
Founded in 2002 by Jeni Britton Bauer, the Columbus, Ohio-based brand uses whole ingredients and dairy from grass-pastured cows to make its ice creams. Unique flavors include Mexican Hot Chocolate, Middle West Whiskey and Pecans, Skillet Cinnamon Roll, Sweet Cream Biscuits and Peach, and Goat Cheese with Red Cherries.
“Our ice creams have a uniquely smooth texture and buttercream body, with bright flavor and clean finish (we don’t use synthetic flavorings, dyes, or off-the-shelf mixes),” a statement on the brand’s website reads. “You may notice the absence of a long list of stabilizers and emulsifiers on our label; we prefer the more complex process of building texture and flavor without them.” And that’s what makes it so splendid.
Besides its scoop shops, the brand ships nationwide and offers local delivery. Pints of Jeni’s flavors can also be found in Whole Foods, Central Market and Foxtrot Market.
