Fire heavily damaged a scratch-made pie shop in Dallas in March, and the owners are now working to rebuild. There is much to be done to renovate Humble: Simply Good Pies located at 9014 Garland Rd., but owner Sean Jett is hopeful the process will go quickly. “We’re hoping, and I’m crossing my fingers, we’re still hoping to get everything open by mid-September.”

The month-and-a-half-long investigation found a discarded cigarette behind the pie shop caught a shed on fire and spread to the building. “It’s been tough,” Jett told What Now Dallas. They were able to salvage some things, but almost every piece of major cooking equipment and the walk-in cooler were lost in the fire.

Humble: Simply Good Pies is finally in the process of reconstruction, but Jett is waiting on permitting to move forward with demolition. “I slowly but surely have been putting pieces and parts back together again.”

Jett and his wife, Erin Jett, opened Humble: Simply Good Pies in May of 2018. The scratch-made pie shop primarily offers sweet pies such as chocolate cream pie and Texas pecan pie by the slice or whole. The menu also includes pot pies and cookies.

“We will be possibly expanding our menu a little bit to add sandwiches, cold sandwiches to the menu. My wife discovered recently as an unfortunate side effect of having COVID that she’s now got Celiacs, so we will be expanding our gluten-free menu,” Jett shared.

For now, they have their work cut out for them rebuilding the pie shop. Jett is currently in discussions with Dallas College to secure a kitchen. He would like to soon begin offering a few menu items at some pop-ups at farmers’ markets or right outside the shop.
