Unlike most of the brand’s new and forthcoming franchise locations, this one will not be housed inside of a Walmart. Coming to 3020 E Broad St, Shawarma Press will occupy suite 108 at The Shops at Broad.

The 430,000-square-foot shopping center is home to Academy, Belk, James Avery and T.J. Maxx, as well as the 78,000-square-foot Children’s Health StarCenter and the 80,000-square-foot Fieldhouse USA. Current restaurants at the center include 54th Street Grill & Bar, McAlister’s Deli, MOD Pizza, Starbucks and Torchy’s Tacos.

In speaking with What Now Dallas, the franchise owner for the forthcoming restaurant confirmed the location. “With everything going on as far as COVID-19, supply chain struggles, you can’t control everything,” he said regarding the grand opening. “Construction will start the day of delivery [of property] on January 1 and will take anywhere from 60 to 60 days, so May 1 is the tentative opening date.”

The Mansfield restaurant will offer dine-in and pick-up, but perhaps its most unique feature is is that it will be using robots for service. Yes, you read that right. Robots.

Shawarma Press is a “very successful upcoming” concept, the owner said. “I’m hoping to open a few more within the next one to two years.”

Founded by Sawsan Abublan and husband, Dr. Ehap Sabri, the first Shawarma Press opened in Irving in 2017. The brand started with a dream driven by a craving for authentic, freshly prepared Mediterranean food. Providing more nutritious offerings than many fast casual restaurants, Shawarma Press follows Halal guidelines and is committed to using high quality ingredients, premium beef, and 100% natural chicken raised with no steroids, hormones, or antibiotics. All dishes, including hummus, falafel, and sauces, are made from scratch.

The star entrée is clearly Shawarma. But the menu also features a variety of wraps, appetizers, salads, home-baked pastries, desserts, and numerous vegan options. For those who may not be familiar with Shawarma, Abublan explains that “Shawarma” is the wrap, and “press” refers to the grill or griddle used to make the wrap crispy.

Earlier this year, the brand announced plans to open several franchise locations over the next several years. Most of the new franchises will operate inside Walmart stores.

Aside from the Irving restaurant which is located at 411 E Royal Ln, the brand recently opened its second location in San Antonio inside Walmart at 11210 Potranco Rd. A third location is in the works for Plano inside Walmart at 6001 N US 75-Central Expy 1000. It was expected to open by the end of the year, but the date has been pushed back. “Coming soon!!! January 20222!!!! Stay tuned!!!” a recent update from the brand reads.

Other franchise locations are planned for Arlington, Frisco and Georgetown, as well as locations in Oklahoma and Florida.
