Marketed as having “the best chicken sandwich in town,” the concept was created by Derek Cha and partner Mike Kim. After visiting many successful Nashville style chicken restaurants in Los Angeles, San Francisco, and, of course, Nashville, the two developed a “secret recipe” to have the most juicy and crispy sandwich.
Hangry Joe’s currently has two locations in the state where it was founded – Ashland and Fairfax, Virginia, respectively, with more in the works. Texas is its first out of state market.
While Hangry Joe’s just opened in May of this year, it’s not Cha’s first restaurant rodeo. He’s also the founder of popular frozen yogurt retail restaurant chain, Sweet Frog. Now, a team of restaurant entrepreneurs is bringing his fairly new concept to the Lone Star State with plans to open several more locations.
Besides a hot chicken sandwich, Hangry Joe’s also offers chicken fingers, chicken and waffles, and loaded waffle fries. Their Korean chicken nuggets that come with a choice of soy garlic or spicy soy garlic and a side of rice sounds especially appealing.
When it comes to the spicy levels, Hangry Joe’s isn’t playing around. Five different levels are offered – plain (which guests are warned “may still be little spicy,” mild, medium, hot, and angry hot. You might be required to sign a waiver for this last one.
