According to lease intel, the new restaurant will open at 2111 E University Dr. It will occupy suite 60 in the Prosper Commons strip mall alongside Papa John’s and The Cookie Rack. The space was previously home to Total Care Animal Hospital which moved to a stand-alone building on Richland Blvd., and then a Martial Arts school.

Previous restaurants in the mall, like Subway and Mesa’s Mexican Grill, have since permanently closed. So, here’s to hoping Gidi Grill will see more success in the area.

Founded by Martin Fayomi and Akin Akinwunmi, the Nigerian-American restaurant first opened in Frisco in June 2021. If you’re wondering about the name, Gidi is an acronym for “Glad I Did It.”

“The whole concept of Gidi Bar and Grill was to drive forward diversity, especially in our Frisco community,” Fayomi told The Dallas Morning News in 2021. “We want to make sure that we are welcoming to diverse folks in the area.”

Popular menu items include asun – spicy goat meat, jollaf – a classic Nigerian rice dish; and beef suya. There’s also chicken wings, burgers and sandwiches, and salads.

A variety of specialty cocktails are also served.

Gidi Grill is currently open in Frisco at 4350 Main St., suite 165.
